The New Audeo Belong Hearing Aid Range From Phonak

4 Min read

22nd Oct 2016

The big news around the launch of the latest Phonak hearing aids range, the Audeo Belong, was really focused on the innovative and ground breaking Lithium-ion rechargeable hearing aid option. Probably rightly so because it is such a great step forward for hearing aid technology. However, there is much more to the range than just that, the new Audeo Belong range has much more to offer, let’s take a look at what that is.

What’s new in the Audeo Belong?

The Audeo Belong hearing aid range comes with the new rechargeable option, an upgraded operating system, the latest version of Phonak’s Sound Recover 2 and new and improved microphones and programme button. The Belong is based on the same microchip as the Venture hearing aids, but the new features and upgrades make them an advancement on the venture instruments. Let me explain.

New Autosense OS

The operating system in the Belong range is still called Autosense OS, however, they have improved upon the original with tweaks that make a difference to how it works. Phonak undertakes constant research on how their features work in the real world and they have been doing so with Autosense since it was first introduced.

That research has allowed them to change the parameters on the operating system, which has allowed them to deliver even better speech intelligibility in all of the situations you face. It also has a new way to deal with soft speech which delivers better soft speech intelligibility.

The Phonak Audeo Belong Range
Audeo Belong Range

SoundRecover2

SoundRecover2 is a feature that moves high frequency sounds in speech like the t and th sound into lower areas of hearing. It works only when needed, for instance if a sound is in an area of hearing where you would have no way of hearing it. While that is a very simple description of what it does, it is quite an accurate one. We sometimes have customers who have high frequency hearing that just does not work any longer or is too damaged to try and amplify for.

In such cases, a normal hearing aid strategy is not what is needed. SoundRecover2 is an excellent feature which allows the user access the sound information they need to understand speech. The new and updated version was first introduced in the new Naida Venture and is adaptive and much better at doing it’s job, early feedback from users is that it makes an amazing difference.

Hardware changes

Phonak have introduced a new style of button on the devices which is easier to use and a new microphone system. The microphone system improves the experience of a user immeasurably, it is exceptionally quiet, let me explain why that might matter. All hearing aids produce a low volume sound that is often described as a hiss.

It is caused more often than not by the microphones. It isn’t particularly loud but some people with good low frequency hearing can still hear it.  While it is not a major issue, it can be an annoyance. The new microphones in the Belong range make it exceptionally quiet.

The Phonak Audeo Belong Hearing Aid Range

The range itself is a full line Audeo offering, so that is a full range of Receiver in Canal devices. That’s five different devices:

Audeo B-10

Very small RIC device using a size 10 battery, it is quite discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. It doesn’t have a telecoil although as always it is a wireless device. It has a button but no volume control.

Audeo B-312

Again a very small RIC device, however, it uses a size 312 battery, it is still very discreet and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. Like the 10, it doesn’t have a telecoil although as always it is a wireless device. It has a button but no volume control.

Audeo B-312T

Slightly bigger than the 312, it is still a small and discrete device RIC which uses a size 312 battery, it can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. Un-like the 10 and the 312, it has a telecoil as well as being a wireless device. It has a button but no volume control.

Audeo B-13

The largest of the Audeo B RIC range, it runs on a size 13 battery and can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses. The 13 comes fully loaded with both a telecoil, programme button and a volume control as well as being a wireless device.

Audeo B-R

The RIC device that all the hype has been about, a rechargeable hearing device running on Lithium-ion power. A solid 24 hours of use  from one three hour charge. It can be used with several receiver variations meaning it can cover a lot of hearing losses down to profound. It is also a wireless device with a programme button but no volume control or telecoil.

The launch of the new Audeo Belong range caught us a little by surprise so closely after the Venture introduction, however, it is a welcome addition to the hearing devices we provide, and not just for it’s rechargeable option. If you have any questions about the hearing devices please don’t hesitate to contact us. You can arrange an appointment for here at our Worcester hearing centre or for our new hearing centre in stratford upon Avon.

If you have any questions about this interesting new technology, or you would like a hearing test or earwax removal in Worcester, give us a call on 01905 617803 or book your hearing test online now.

The invisible Lyric hearing aid and Tinnitus relief

2 Min read

7th Apr 2016

Lyric Can Be very Beneficial For Tinnitus, & Here’s Why

Get relief from your tinnitus 24 hours a day with Lyric

The latest studies conducted by Dr Jacob Johnson, the Associate Clinical Professor at the University of California, reveal that the extended wear (24/7) technology, may decrease the impact that your tinnitus has on your quality of life. The key feature of the benefit is that the Lyric provides sound stimulation all day every day. Let me explain why that is a good idea and why they can better for tinnitus relief than traditional hearing aids.

Hearing Aids & Tinnitus

Tinnitus is very often accompanied by hearing loss, in fact we believe much tinnitus may actually be a by-product of hearing loss. In most cases once the hearing loss has been treated with hearing aids, the tinnitus fades into insignificance.

However, once the hearing aids are taken out, the tinnitus returns. The problem is that most people will take their hearing aids out to go to bed. This is perhaps the quietest time of their day, which makes their tinnitus much more noticeable. Causing real difficulty with sleep, which frustrates and stresses them which increases their perception of their tinnitus. A vicious circle.

Lyric Hearing Aids Are Different

The real benefit of Lyric hearing aids for people with tinnitus and hearing loss is that they are worn 24/7. Therefore they are never taken out by the user and there is no let up in the relief provided by proper amplification. Even at bedtime, most users still have a noticeable difference in their perception of their tinnitus with Lyric.

It is this always on feature that makes Lyric very different from other hearing aids and other sound therapy for tinnitus. They work to give relief from tinnitus twenty four hours a day, seven days a week.

Phonak Audeo B-R Hearing Aids

The Audeo BR Hearing Aid Range

Phonak introduced the Audeo Belong range to the UK last month and they have proven far more popular than they expected. At least the rechargeable option has, in fact they are finding it hard to keep up with the demand world wide. So why have they proven so popular?

Freed from the hassle of changing batteries

Audeo B-R Rechargeable hearing aids

Phonak have created the brand new Audéo B-R to simplify life and many people are only too happy to take advantage of that. Freeing themselves of the grief of disposable hearing aid batteries is very attractive. Up to now though, the technology just didn’t give the reassurance that many people needed that their hearing aids would not let them down at the wrong moment. The groundbreaking built-in lithium-ion battery technology in the Audeo B-R offers 24 hours of better hearing between charges.

Ground Breaking Tech

Audeo B-R hearing aids in Case

With 40% more power than conventional rechargeable batteries this new system is reliable and capable of supporting the superior technology and performance of Phonak hearing aids. This has allowed people to be confident with the new technology and very confident they seem.

As we said, people really want to enjoy the freedom and confidence of using Phonak rechargeable hearing aids. So much so, that Phonak are finding it hard to keep up.

If you have any questions about this interesting new technology, or you would like a hearing test or earwax removal in Worcester, give us a call or book your hearing test online now.

Fitting the Lyric invisible hearing aid in Worcester

Fitting The Invisible Hearing Aid

Fitting the Lyric Hearing aid

We have been fitting the Lyric hearing aid for some time now in Worcester. We have had really fantastic results and many happy customers. The Lyric is a different type of hearing aid, in fact, it is the only one of its type. It is placed by us, exceptionally close to your eardrum. The Lyric is a completely invisible solution because of its deep placement in the canal.

Truly Invisible Hearing Aids

It is also the only long wear 24/7 hearing aid device on the market. It is worn for up to three months, no battery changes, daily extraction or insertion, simply hassle free hearing. Because of this placement it is exceptionally important that a trained professional both places and extracts the device. Actually placing the device does not take long and there is little or no discomfort.

Although Lyric® is an exciting and unique hearing solution, like all hearing aids, it is not the right solution for everyone with hearing loss.

The Lyric is only appropriate for people with mild to moderately-severe hearing loss. Its use is also constrained by ear size and shape. There are also some medical contra indications to the use of the device. During the consultation we will assess your hearing problems, your ear size and shape, and your medical conditions to evaluate if Lyric is right for you. The very first step is to have a hearing test.

The Hearing Test

The first step if for us to do a thorough hearing test to identify your hearing loss and lifestyle needs. Our test is comprehensive and will involve a diagnostic test of all of the functions of your hearing system. The test involves procedures such as:

  • Pure Tone Testing
  • Speech Testing
  • Tympanometry
  • Acoustic Reflex Testing

These tests allow us a full appreciation of your hearing loss and its underlying cause. The tests will also allow us to judge if you are a viable candidate for the Lyric hearing aid. We will then move onto assess your ear canal and shape for seating of the Lyric hearing aid

Lyric Hearing Aid Assessment

We will inspect your ear canal using a special microscope, this is to see if your canal shape and health is okay for the Lyric. The Lyric will be in your ear canal for months at a time so we need to be confident in the health of your ear canal. If we are happy that you are suitable, we will then size your canal.

Sizing For Lyric

Using a special forceps and depth sizing tool we will measure the length of your canal. Once the length is measured and you are found suitable we then use different sizing tools to find the right size Lyric hearing aid for you. This is a simple exercise, we place the sizing tool into your canal and then we carefully inspect the canal with the microscope to assess the fit. Having found the right size we will then move on to the actual fitting.

Fitting The Lyric

Having found the right size for you, we program the Lyric via our system and then place it in your ear canal. We will quickly find the right position and this part of the procedure is over in moments. It is very much a new experience for people, most of our Patients adjust to the feel of the Lyric quickly. However, some people do need to come back so we can adjust the position of the device.

Initially what we do is to ask you to walk around town for a while, this gives you some time to experience the sound and the fit of the Lyric. You will then come back to the shop and we will undertake any adjustments in sound quality or positioning for you then and there.

Hearing Aids, The Phonak Audeo V90 RIC Hearing Device Range

The Phonak Audeo V90

IFrameWe believe that we are the best option for you for hearing care in Worcestershire, but we know you shouldn’t rely on what we say. So we asked our customers to tell you about us so you could make up your own mind. You can hear what they say on the video to the right.

The new hearing aid range from Phonak, the Audéo V, is a Receiver-In-Canal (RIC) hearing aid, making it a versatile but highly discreet option.  RIC devices are very discreet because the piece that goes behind your ear is usually very small and the tube leading from it into your ear is almost invisible. They are very versatile because the receiver (the speaker part in the ear) can be changed for different levels of power, meaning that they can often work for nearly every hearing loss.

RICs aren’t for everyone

RIC devices aren’t suitable for everyone, if you have wet ears or really waxy ears it can cause the receiver to fail. So they aren’t necessarily suitable for everyone.

The Audeo V replaces the Audeo Q or Quest hearing aid family. The choice of hair and skin colours that Phonak have made available enhances the hearing aid’s discreetness if that is what you want. The fashion and fun colours make sure that you can show them off, if that is more your style. Phonak have ensured that they have something to suit every style. The hearing devices deliver fantastic support in even the most challenging listening situations, as you would expect from such a quality hearing aid manufacturer. they really are a complete package, great sound quality and a discreet, modern design. The Audeo V delivers:

  • A great choice of styles at different price levels
  • An option to help manage tinnitus

Phonak Launches the New Naida V Range of Hearing Aids

5 Min read

7th Apr 2015

Phonak Recently launched their latest hearing aids for people with severe to profound hearing loss. They have become famous for their Naida range which delivers benefits for people with this type of loss. Originally introduced in 2007 they have gone through several updates. This time the get a new chipset and completely new designs, smaller and more powerful than before they now offer power coupled with discretion.

Matt Gilbert

Matt Gilbert

The launch event was attended by Matt Gilbert, who is in fact one of our customers and the and number eight for Worcester Warriors. Matt is the only deaf professional sportsman in England.

In 2012 Mat was fitted with a Phonak hearing device. Since then he has worked as a celebrity ambassador for Phonak, helping to raise awareness of hearing loss and encouraging children with hearing loss to excel. He discussed his experiences with The Naida devices, he also explained how wireless accessory devices from Phonak had changed his life.

Matt has profound hearing loss, however using Phonak’s wireless accessories like the com pilot and the TV link allows him to use his mobile phone and watch television with his wife without subtitles. This something that he was unable to do before he began wearing the Naida and availaing of the wireless accessories.

He really feels that this integrated solution has made a huge difference for him, giving him complete freedom. One of the things that really struck us was the fact that Matt was so pleased that he could take his own mobile phone calls now. Before the Naida and the Com Pilot his wife would have had to do it for him.

We are pleased that Phonak have launched the Naida V, the new Venture platform is really fantastic and now that the Naida has the technology on board it gives us a chance to fit Matt with the very best available technology.

Phonak

Naida Venture Hearing Aids

Phonak is a hearing aid manufacturer that is renowned for solutions for severe and profound hearing loss. Their latest addition continues and builds on that historical legacy.

They have just launched the latest addition to their now famous Naida range. The new addition is based on the Venture chipset and brings all of the benefits of that new platform to people with severe and profound hearing loss. The range is available in four levels of technology which include the V90, V70, V50 and V30.

The new range brings new form factors with much smaller and more powerful devices than available in the older Naida Quest range. It also packs in some great updated features with new strategies to deliver as much sound information as possible.

The Naida V Range

Feature run down

Sound Recover 2

With a new version of Phonak’s sound Recover strategy the Naida offers more high frequency cues than ever before. This allows access to the nuances of sound that you may not be able to hear.

Water resistant

The range is rated to IP68, which means it will survive immersion in one metre of water for sixty minutes without damage. Phonak are circumspect calling it water resistant, but another manufacturer calls this waterproof. One way or the other this range will quite happily get in the shower and the pool with you.

More robust

The casing is made with a new glass fiber reinforced material, the Naída V is now 60% more robust than its predecessor which together with its resistance to water should really give you confidence it won’t fail.

AutoSense

As part of the Venture platform the new Naida range benefits from Autosense and all of its features. This allows it to deliver the best possible experience in a range of sound environments.

The hearing aids

Naida V RIC

Naida V RIC

The Naida V RIC (Receiver in Canal) offers outstanding output levels in a small package, it will deliver outstanding benefits for people with mild to severe hearing losses. The device comes with three possible receiver options, the XS, the XP and the new X UP (for Ultra Power).

With the introduction of a new back vented style X UP receiver, the hearing aid will cover a hearing loss down to a flat 100 dB. This means that even people with a severe hearing loss can avail of an exceptionally discreet hearing solution without compromise in power or functionality.

Naida V SP

Naida V SP

The new Naida V SP is 25% thinner than its predecessor, it is also a much smaller hearing aid. It runs on a size thirteen battery and can be fit with a power slim tube and tip which offers real discretion. It can also be fitted with a standard thick tube and mould configuration. The power slim tube has been re-designed and it now sits lower on the top of the ear.

The new shape allows the tube to hug the face in a much better way. The power output on the new SP has been increased and it now matches the power output on the older Naida Quest UP. Which simply means that more people with severe to profound hearing loss can now avail of a more discreet option.

Naida V UP

Naida V UP

The new Naida V UP is again thinner and smaller than its predecessor with a newly designed form factor. The power output on the hearing aid has been increased giving it even more sound performance which allows it to deliver for even the most profound hearing loss.

It is powered by a 675 battery and can also be fitted with a power slim tube and custom tip. This is definitely the smallest 675 traditional type hearing aid solution for profound hearing loss I have ever seen. It will give people with profound hearing loss a more discreet solution.

If you have any questions about the Phonak Naida range or you would like to experience the difference, call us on 01905 617803 or book your appointment online now.
