Struggling with hearing aid batteries? We have the solution

2 Min read

18th Sep 2023

Hearing aids are crucial for those experiencing hearing loss. They allow you to maintain your independence and continue enjoying the things you love. However, dealing with traditional hearing aid batteries can be a major inconvenience, especially for those with dexterity issues or who live a busy lifestyle.

At our Worcester and Stratford-upon-Avon hearing centres, we understand these difficulties and are proud to offer a solution: rechargeable hearing aids. Read on to find out more.

Why Rechargeable Hearing Aids?

Traditional hearing aids use disposable batteries, which need to be replaced frequently, typically every 5-14 days depending on usage. This can be particularly challenging for people with arthritis, tremors, or other conditions that affect their hand dexterity.

Replacing tiny batteries can be fiddly and frustrating. There’s also the constant need to keep a supply of batteries on hand and to dispose of used ones properly.

Rechargeable hearing aids simplify all of this. They come with built-in batteries that can be recharged nightly, just like you would with your mobile phone. This means no more fumbling with tiny batteries or worrying about running out.

Rechargeable Hearing Aids at WS Hearing

We offer a wide range of rechargeable hearing aids at our Stratford-upon-Avon and Worcester clinics, including:

Phonak Slim

Phonak Slim hearing aids are known for their exceptional sound quality and seamless connectivity to smartphones, TVs, and other devices. The Phonak Slim Charger is a compact charger with a sleek appearance that perfectly complements the Phonak Slim, charging the hearing aids in just three hours to offer a full day of hearing.

Oticon Real

Oticon Real gives you the option of 2 types of chargers: Recharge your hearing aids on the go with a built-in power bank with the award winning SmartCharger or the Desktop charger that gives you a full day’s power, every day. Plus, it offers Bluetooth connectivity to all of your devices and Oticon’s accessories like remote microphones to enhance your listening experience.

Rechargeable hearing aids at Stratford-upon-Avon

3 Min read

10th Aug 2023

In Stratford-upon-Avon, we are transforming the way people interact with the world around them by offering an innovative solution for those with hearing loss: rechargeable hearing aids. These state-of-the-art devices are designed to simplify your life, offering effortless recharging, Bluetooth connectivity, and an improved lifestyle with a lower carbon footprint.

Read on to find out more.

Understanding Rechargeable Hearing Aids

Phonak Slim

Just like your everyday gadgets, rechargeable hearing aids can be charged overnight, completely removing the need for frequent battery changes. This ensures that your hearing aids are ready for use all day, so you don’t have to worry about batteries running out at a crucial time.

These devices are perfect for individuals who may have arthritis or other dexterity issues, as the batteries are often very small and can be challenging to handle. By simply placing your hearing aids onto their charging unit overnight, you alleviate the stress of managing these small components.

The advantages of going rechargeable

One of the key benefits of rechargeable hearing aids is their potential to lower your carbon footprint. By opting to recharge your batteries instead of constantly buying new ones, you are significantly reducing waste, thereby contributing positively to the environment.

Moreover, the inclusion of Bluetooth capabilities in many models allows you to directly stream audio from your hearing aids. This feature adds a layer of convenience that truly modernises the hearing aid experience.

Why should you consider Rechargeable Hearing Aids in Stratford-upon-Avon?

The cost of rechargeable hearing aids is typically similar to traditional models, making the switch a no-brainer for most. With outstanding battery life, even those who stream audio frequently can rely on their hearing aids to last throughout the day.

While the hearing aids themselves can last anywhere from seven to ten years, it is recommended to replace the lithium-ion batteries every six years. The process is typically handled by the manufacturer as the batteries are usually sealed within the hearing aids.

But why choose Stratford-upon-Avon Hearing Centre?

When you choose WS Hearing, you’re not just buying a product; you’re investing in an experience. From having a dedicated audiologist who understands your journey to receiving extensive aftercare, we ensure you are fully supported. The process is simple and efficient. In just a few minutes, you can complete the test, which is designed to gauge your hearing abilities accurately. There’s no need to worry about making appointments or travelling; with just a few clicks, you are on your way to better hearing.

Take a look at our online hearing test here: https://www.wshearing.co.uk/online-hearing-test/

Book a hearing test in Stratford-upon-Avon

woman having hearing test

Have you been noticing a gradual change in your hearing? Perhaps it’s time to take action. At our award-winning hearing centre in Stratford-upon-Avon, we offer comprehensive hearing tests to assess your hearing health and provide personalised solutions.

Read on to find out more about symptoms of hearing loss and what is involved in our hearing tests.

Signs you may need a hearing test

Hearing loss can creep in subtly, but there are several signs that you might need a hearing test:

  • Difficulty understanding conversation, especially in noisy environments
  • Frequently asking people to repeat themselves
  • Having to turn up the volume on your TV or radio
  • A constant ringing or buzzing in your ears (tinnitus)
  • Difficulty hearing on the telephone
  • If you experience any of these symptoms, it might be time to book a hearing test.

What to expect at your hearing test appointment

Patient at reception

When you visit our hearing centre in Stratford-upon-Avon, here’s what your initial assessment appointment will look like:

  • Our friendly reception staff will welcome you into our calming waiting room before your appointment.
  • You’ll have a conversation about your hearing and lifestyle with one of our expert audiologists.
  • The audiologist will perform a video otoscopy to examine your ear and auditory canal.
  • A full audiometric hearing assessment will be conducted.
  • The results will be explained, and a discussion will follow about the next steps.

The five stages of the Hearing Test

Our thorough hearing test consists of five stages:

Pure Tone Testing: You’ll listen to a series of tones through headphones and a bone conduction vibrator attached to a headband. The aim is to determine the softest level of pure tones you can detect, which helps us identify your hearing thresholds.

Speech Testing: Words will be presented through headphones, which you’ll need to repeat. This test measures how well you understand speech in quiet and noisy environments, which can help diagnose nerve damage and determine if hearing aids could benefit you.

Tympanometry: An ear tip connected to a machine briefly changes pressure in your ear, measuring the movement of your eardrum and identifying any potential congestion.

Acoustic Reflex: Our ears have a natural reflex that stiffens the eardrum in response to loud noises. This test measures that reflex, using beeps that progressively get louder.

After the Test: You’ll discuss the results and any recommendations with the audiologist. If you are a suitable candidate for hearing aids, we’ll explore potential options with you.

Types of earwax removal techniques

4 Min read

13th Jul 2023

The different types of earwax removal techniques

Here at our private hearing centres in Worcester and Stratford-upon-Avon, we pride ourselves on being at the forefront of auditory health and services. Today, we want to take some time to discuss an often overlooked but crucial aspect of hearing health: earwax removal.

Signs you may need your earwax removed

Earwax is not created as a bad thing. It is actually a protection mechanism for the ear canal; the issue only occurs when there is too much. You may need it removed if you have:

  • A feeling of fullness in the ear.
  • The sensation that everything you hear is muffled.
  • Mild Tinnitus (a ringing in the ear).
  • Sudden hearing loss after swimming or showering.(Earwax is like a sponge, it soaks up the water and expands within the ear canal, completely blocking it.)

Earwax removal techniques

Earwax removal

There are several methods to safely remove earwax, and we are proud to offer these services right in our clinics in Worcester and Stratford-upon-Avon.

  1. Microsuction

Microsuction is a popular and safe method of earwax removal. It involves using a microscope to view the ear canal and a small medical suction device to gently suck out the wax. This method is generally quick, painless, and usually doesn’t require any pre-treatment with ear drops.

  1. Ear Irrigation

Ear irrigation is another common method. This technique uses a pressurised flow of water to dislodge the wax buildup. This method is used if the wax is very soft and wet. This is often the case if the patient has been using lots of aggressive ear drops such as Otex.

  1. Endoscopic Earwax Removal

This method uses a narrow tube-like instrument with a light and a camera lens at the end (an endoscope). The endoscope allows us to look deep into the ear canal and remove the earwax safely and effectively. This procedure is often more comfortable than microsuction and can be highly effective for complex cases or difficult-to-reach wax.

How much is earwax removal?

All our methods are charged at £80 and we will decide at your appointment which would best suit you. This includes a 30 minute appointment, involving a video otoscopy to record images of your ear drums before and after the procedure and ear wax removal for one or both ears as required.

If a second, or follow up appointment is required, this will be charged at a reduced rate of £40. If no ear wax is found, we will perform a Tympanometry test to measure your middle ear function and rule out any fluid or congestion in the middle ear, this will be a fee of £40. We will give advice or arrange an onward referral to an appropriate medical specialist if required.

Why choose our clinics in Stratford-upon-Avon and Worcester

At our hearing centres, we have a team of highly skilled audiologists who are experienced in these earwax removal methods. We understand that every ear is unique, and so we personalise our approach based on your specific needs.

Our Audiologists are all hospital trained Clinical Audiologists. They have been trained in the specialist NHS Rotherham ear care unit and examined for competency in ear wax removal procedures by ENT surgeons. All our audiologists have also performed procedures on 100s of ears in logged training under the supervision of Victoria Dixon, who has been teaching ear wax removal in the private sector for 15 years.

At our Stratford and Worcester hearing centres, we use medical ENT microscopes or high spec surgical loupes, which give a much higher level of magnification than magnified glasses commonly used by makeshift earwax removal clinics in many national companies, pharmacies and opticians. This ensures the Audiologist has a clear view of what he/she is doing and accurate depth perception maximises safety and effective outcome of the procedure.

We use clinical, highest specification, ENT suction units, made by Otopront. These suction units are substantially more advanced than the small portable off label home suction units commonly used by other companies.

Maintaining your hearing health is our top priority. So, why not take the first step today and book an appointment with us? With locations in Stratford-upon-Avon and Worcester, professional help is right around the corner.

If you have any questions or concerns about earwax removal, or if you’re experiencing symptoms like hearing loss, discomfort, or tinnitus, please don’t hesitate to reach out to us. Our friendly and knowledgeable team is ready to assist you on your journey towards better hearing.

Let us help you unblock the silence and enjoy the sounds of life again.

How Invisible Hearing Aids work and what to expect

Hearing loss is a common problem that affects millions of people. Hearing aids are one of the most effective ways to manage hearing loss. However we find that some people are hesitant to use them because they are visible and can affect self-esteem.

This is where Invisible Hearing aids come in. Invisible Hearing Aids are a great option for people who want to improve their hearing without the visible appearance of traditional hearing aids.

What are Invisible Hearing Aids?

Invisible Hearing Aids are small devices that are designed to fit inside the ear canal. They are custom-made to fit each person’s individual ear and are made from materials that are both comfortable and discreet.

Benefits of Invisible Hearing Aids

There are several benefits to using Invisible Hearing Aids, including:

  • Improved self-esteem and confidence
  • Enhance quality of life
  • Improved hearing ability in social situations
  • Improved ability to understand speech
  • Better sound quality
  • Improved comfort

Types of Invisible Hearing Aids

There are two main types of invisible hearing aids, both of which we offer at our hearing centres in Stratford-upon-Avon and Worcester.

Invisible-in-the-canal (IIC) are custom made hearing aids that fit deep inside the ear canal, making them virtually invisible. A person’s ear canal shape and size will have a bearing on how deep these devices can fit into the ear canal.

The Phonak Lyric has a unique placement in the ear canal, it is inserted by a highly skilled audiologist using a microscope and sits 4mm from the ear drum making it the first 100%, completely invisible hearing aid.

You can wear this hearing aid for upto 2 months at a time and for all your daily activities, including showering and sleeping. It allows you to live life without constraints, with no battery changes needed.

How do Invisible hearing aids work?

Invisible hearing aids use advanced technology to amplify sound and improve hearing. They work by using microphones to pick up sounds, which are then processed by a digital chip.

The positioning of them is also believed to be optimal for sound quality, as it allows the outer ear and ear canal to do its job and funnel sound naturally towards the eardrum.

How to know if you need hearing aids

There is no ‘one size fits all’ answer to hearing loss. Your hearing test results are crucial to making a diagnosis and treating any kind of hearing loss. In our state of the art hearing centre’s in Stratford upon Avon and Worcester your hearing will be diagnostically assessed using the most advanced audiology equipment available. Your hearing aids will then be bespokely made to your individual ear canal and customised to your hearing loss where we will ensure they will deliver the help you need in the situations you need it.

How much do invisible hearing aids cost

We understand that private hearing care can be considered expensive, but the on-going service required to keep your ears maintained, devices serviced and programmed efficiently can’t always be appreciated until it is required.

Our bespoke patient care plans are tailored to your needs and include the most suitable technology for you. They deliver you everything you need to benefit from your hearing aids, that would likely cost up to £510 per year if you purchased hearing aids from other providers and paid separately for our services.

Our plans are priced from £1,500 for a single ear as part of our Bronze package which offers:

1 custom made invisible in the canal digital hearing aid

  • Premium care plan service
  • Manufacturer warranty cover
  • Lifetime clean and check
  • Ear wax removal

Who can benefit from invisible hearing aids

If you are used to an active lifestyle, invisible hearing aids offer a secure fit. They have no external wires or tubes and are extremely comfortable to wear.

They also allow you to use your devices, such as telephone or headphones, with little to no feedback. Some devices also have Bluetooth which means you can stream your audio directly to your hearing aids.

However, they are not suitable for everyone. While your hearing loss needs to be taken into account, the major stumbling block to suitability is normally the size and shape of your ear canal. Whether it’s too small or too narrow, it means you won’t be suitable for these devices, which is something we can check for.

Invisible hearing aids are a great option for people who want to improve their hearing without the visible appearance of traditional hearing aids.

Earwax removal for £80 in Stratford-upon-Avon & Worcester

Earwax buildup is a common problem that can cause discomfort and even hearing loss if left untreated. At our Stratford-upon-Avon & Worcester hearing centres, we offer earwax removal services for just £80.

In this blog post, we’ll discuss the signs that you may need your earwax removed, as well as our methods of removal and why you should choose us.

Signs you may need your earwax removed

Firstly, let’s take a look at the signs you may need your earwax removed. These include a feeling of fullness in the ear, muffled hearing, mild tinnitus, or sudden hearing loss after swimming or showering.

The cause of these symptoms is through excessive earwax buildup, which can be safely and easily removed by a professional.

Our earwax removal methods in Stratford-upon-Avon & Worcester

At Stratford-upon-Avon & Worcester hearing centres, we offer three methods of earwax removal. These are Microsuction, Ear Irrigation & Instrumentation, and Endoscopic Earwax Removal.

Microsuction earwax removal

  • The procedure is undertaken with a microscope and a finely balanced medical suction device.
  • No liquids are present during the procedure, making it extra comfortable for you.
  • Because we can see the ear canal and what we are doing clearly, it is exceptionally safe.

Ear irrigation & instrumentation

  • This consists of pumping water into the ear canal at a controlled and steady rate, to dislodge and flush out ear wax.
  • We place a metal basin beneath the ear to collect the water and any earwax.
  • This method is for when the wax is very soft and wet. This is often the case if the patient has been using lots of aggressive ear drops such as Otex.

Endoscopic earwax removal

  • This method has clear advantages over any other removal method.
  • Newly introduced procedure that removes ear wax with the help of an endoscope.
  • We then use an endoscope to view the ear canal while the earwax is being removed.
  • The endoscope allows us a high definition, extra wide view of the ear canal – making the removal even safer and easier to perform.

Why choose us for your earwax removal

  • Our audiologists are all hospital trained Clinical Audiologists in the specialist NHS Rotherham ear care unit. Additionally, they are examined for competency in ear wax removal procedures by ENT surgeons.
  • We also use medical ENT microscopes or high spec surgical loupes and clinical, highest specification, ENT suction units made by Otopront. These advanced tools ensure that our procedures are safe and effective, as well as our team being well-equipped to provide you with the best possible care.
  • We offer state-of-the-art facilities that are fully equipped with the latest technology, all in place to offer you a luxury patient experience.

Pricing and appointment details

The fee for our ear wax removal appointment at both Stratford-upon-Avon & Worcester is £80, which includes a 30 minute appointment and ear wax removal for one or both ears as required. If you need a second appointment to complete the procedure, it will be at a reduced rate of £40. If there is no earwax, we will perform a Tympanometry test to measure your middle ear function and rule out any fluid or congestion in the middle ear.

Our cancellation procedure

Finally, if you need to cancel your appointment, please do so at least 24 hours prior to the allocated start time. We will not rebook appointments that are not attended or cancelled with less than 24 hours’ notice. This is unless a £40 no show fee is paid.

Don’t let excessive ear wax cause discomfort or hearing loss. Contact Stratford-upon-Avon & Worcester hearing centres today to schedule an earwax removal appointment for just £80.
